If something goes wrong in a robotaxi

Waymo riders can reach a person through the in-car screen or the app, and Zoox riders through an Emergency Call Button overhead. Both companies let you pull the car over. For a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Reaching support during a ride

Waymo: Support can be called at any time from the in-car screen or the app, and can also reach you through the car's speakers or by phone. Rides booked through Uber get help 24/7 in the Uber app or on the in-car screen.

Zoox: the Emergency Call Button above your head connects to Zoox Support, not to 911. Calls and texts also go through at 1-888-477-5055.

If a life is at risk, dial 911 yourself.

Stopping or changing the trip

The Waymo app can update your destination, pull the car over or cancel the trip. Zoox has a Pull Over button, or you can ask Support, and the vehicle stops at the earliest safe opportunity.

After a collision

If a Waymo detects a collision, Support contacts you, sends its Roadside Assistance team and contacts emergency services. Unless there's an urgent need to get out, Waymo asks riders to stay in the car.

Lost items

To recover something left in a Zoox, text Zoox Support at 1-888-477-5055. Tesla riders use the Lost Item Report form in the Robotaxi app. For Waymo, start with Support in the app.

Incidents, recalls and service pauses

Some problems hit a whole fleet at once. On May 21, 2026 Waymo suspended freeway rides in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Miami over its cars' behavior in construction zones, then filed recall 26E035000 covering 3,871 vehicles. Freeway rides started returning in Phoenix on Jul 29, 2026. Weather has forced pauses as well, in Atlanta after a car got stuck in floodwater on May 20, 2026 (service resumed May 27, 2026) and in San Antonio after an Apr 20, 2026 flood incident.

Zoox recalled 105 vehicles on Jul 10, 2026 because its software could fail to detect heavy smoke, and a software update fixed it. NHTSA opened a probe into Avride in Dallas in May 2026 after 16 crashes. Recalls and investigations are listed by date, with sources, on the safety page.

Reporting a problem

Ride problems go to the operator through its app or support line. Outdated details, such as a service area, pickup spot or status, can be flagged through report a change. Car seat and luggage rules are on luggage, pets and car seats.
