Riding Wayve in London
No Wayve app is needed. Request a normal UberX, Uber Electric or Uber Comfort and a Wayve car may be matched at no extra cost, per Wayve's release, anywhere in London except the airports, so Heathrow is out. The first fleet is 15 Ford Mustang Mach-E cars, and Tech Times reported in August 2026 that TfL had licensed up to 15 of them as private hire vehicles. It described Wayve's software as mapless, meaning it doesn't rely on detailed pre-built maps.
With a licensed driver behind the wheel, this is a safety-driver service. The Automated Passenger Services permit regulations came into force May 15, 2026, and full implementation of the Automated Vehicles Act is due in the second half of 2027, as the UK rules page explains. Motorway use isn't stated, and no age rule beyond Uber's own has been published.
Wayve is the only London robotaxi with public riders. Waymo and Apollo Go are testing without riders, and Pony.ai has announced plans. Wayve's next market is Tokyo, with Nissan and Uber.
