Riding Nuro and Lucid in Houston
An Uber press release announced the plan on Jun 17, 2026, with rides to be booked through the Uber app. No cars carry the public in Houston, and no service area, price, airport plan or age rule has been published.
The closest thing to it runs in the San Francisco Bay Area, where Uber employees have taken test rides since Apr 13, 2026 in Lucid Gravity robotaxis running Nuro's system, with safety drivers on board. A public Bay Area launch was promised for later in 2026 but had not been confirmed as of Oct 13, 2026, and nobody outside Uber can ride one in any city. The Nuro and Lucid page follows it.
Houston riders have two options today. Waymo opened to anyone in its own app on Aug 20, 2026, covering nearly 50 sq mi of central Houston including Downtown, the Texas Medical Center and NRG Stadium. Tesla Robotaxi serves a 25 sq mi zone in northwest Houston around Jersey Village. If the Nuro and Lucid service launches on schedule, it would be the first Houston robotaxi booked through Uber.
