Riding Tesla in Phoenix

In January 2026 Tesla named Phoenix among the next cities for its Robotaxi service, with a target of the first half of the year, according to azfamily. That window closed without a launch. Tesla's Q1 2026 update described Phoenix as 'preparations underway', wording Electrek took as a sign that launches in five US cities were slipping. No service area, start date or vehicle count for Phoenix has been published.

Rides would be booked in the Tesla Robotaxi app used in Texas and Florida, but Tesla hasn't said anything about airports, freeways or Arizona age rules. Its general rider rules apply everywhere: the account holder must be 18 or older, riders aged 8 to 17 can travel in a Model Y with an adult, and nobody can book a trip for someone else. Arizona already allows a fully autonomous vehicle with no human driver once the company files a law enforcement interaction plan and a compliance statement with ADOT. The Arizona rules page has the details.

Waymo in Phoenix is open to anyone in its own app and serves Sky Harbor. Zoox is testing locally but carries no riders. The nearest place to try Tesla's own service is Texas, where cars in Dallas and Houston run driverless rides and Austin runs a mixed fleet in which some cars still carry a monitor.

Tesla in Phoenix: questions

When will Tesla Robotaxi launch in Phoenix?

Tesla has not given a date. It listed Phoenix for the first half of 2026, then described the city as 'preparations underway' in its Q1 2026 update, and no public launch has followed.

Can I use the Tesla Robotaxi app to get a ride in Phoenix?

The app has no Phoenix rides to offer, because Tesla has not opened a public Robotaxi service area in the city.

Which robotaxi can I ride in Phoenix instead of Tesla?

Waymo is the only company giving public driverless rides in Phoenix, and they are booked in the Waymo app. Zoox is testing there, and Tesla has announced the city without launching.
