What to know in Abu Dhabi
Two companies run driverless robotaxis in Abu Dhabi, and a visitor can book both. WeRide went fully driverless on Uber on Nov 25, 2025, with no vehicle specialist inside the car. That came almost a year after Uber and WeRide first started service here in Dec 2024 with safety operators aboard. The second service belongs to Apollo Go, Baidu's robotaxi unit, working with local partner AutoGo. KrASIA reported in January 2026 that it is fully driverless and open to the public through the AutoGo app, though Baidu itself has not confirmed that.
The app decides which car shows up. WeRide vehicles appear inside the regular Uber app, so an existing Uber account is enough. Apollo Go is a separate download, booked in AutoGo. Both started on Yas Island. WeRide's zone grew in July 2025 to about half of Abu Dhabi's core areas, including Al Reem and Al Maryah, while Apollo Go plans a phased expansion to Reem, Al Maryah and Saadiyat islands.
Anyone who has ridden Waymo through Uber in Atlanta or Austin will find the WeRide booking flow familiar. What sets the city apart is having two driverless operators on two different apps. Neither one lists airport service, and no fares have been published. Compare WeRide's other Gulf cities on the WeRide page.
