Riding Zoox in Seattle
The evidence is thin. An Electrek article from Mar 9, 2026, about Zoox adding Phoenix and Dallas, listed Seattle among cities where Zoox had already been testing. No Zoox announcement has given a Seattle service area, depot, timeline or rider program, so the testing remains a report rather than a confirmed fact. Any Zoox vehicles seen around town are test cars that nobody can book.
State law adds a second hurdle. Washington has had no framework for driverless paid rides since SB 6243 failed in committee in 2026, as GeekWire reported, and that gap applies to every company. It's why Waymo in Seattle is also limited to testing after more than a year on local streets.
Riding Zoox means traveling. The public can pay for fully driverless rides between fixed points on and near the Strip in Las Vegas, booked in the Zoox app or Uber, and invited Zoox Explorers ride free in San Francisco. Austin and Miami rides are limited to employees and their friends and family. How the two companies' cars and apps differ is laid out in Zoox vs Waymo.
