Riding Waymo in Tampa
Waymo's Tampa map is the larger of the two in town, roughly 50 sq mi by Waymo's count and 44.6 sq mi when traced. It stretches from Westshore east to Ybor City and Highland Pines, north to Northwest Park and Temple Crest, and south to Hyde Park, with MacFarlane Park and Tampa Heights inside. A cross-town trip like Westshore to Ybor fits in one ride.
Download the Waymo app and request a ride. There's no Uber or Lyft route to one of its cars in Tampa. Riders must be 18 to ride alone, teen accounts aren't available in this city, Tampa International Airport isn't on Waymo's airport list, and nothing has been said about freeways. Fares work as they do elsewhere for Waymo, with a minimum price plus trip distance and time, adjusted for demand, and an estimate shown before you confirm.
Tesla in Tampa lets anyone with its app ride across about half as much ground, while Waymo covers more. Both are open to anyone using the respective app, with Waymo opening Tampa to everyone on Oct 14, 2026. Waymo in Orlando also runs driverless rides without a waitlist. Public riding in Tampa opened on the same day as San Diego and Denver, after employee-only operations that Waymo announced on Jul 8, 2026.
